2011 Narrows Baseball Season Preview


Following up on a winning season last year with a record of 42 and 21, Narrows Baseball is ready to compete again in 2011. With 8 players returning, 14 players moving up from the 16U team, and one moving up from the U 15 team, the 18U team is a good mix of a veteran team bolstered by a group of talented younger players ready to advance. According to head Coach Jon Fuller, this year’s team has a strong offense and has the potential to score a lot of runs scored this season. Assistant Coach for 2011 is Terry Delikat.

Catchers
Future University of Washington player Parker Guinn (Gig Harbor 2011) will return behind the plate to catch for the Narrows Baseball Club. Backing up Guinn will be catchers Kory Vanderstaay (Peninsula, 2013) and Austin Morford (Gig Harbor, 2012).

Infield
Narrows infielders include Alex Weymiller (Peninsula, 2013), Austin Eibel (Gig Harbor, 2012), Nate Reece (North Kitsap, 2012) and returning to play utility, Tanner Romo (South Kitsap, 2011). The corner infielders will be returning first baseman and designated hitter Steffen Jeffcoat (North Kitsap 2011), Garrett Gallinger at third base (Gig Harbor 2013), and Sean Leger (Central Kitsap, 2012).

Outfield
The outfield will be anchored by returners Spencer Manjarrez (Gig Harbor, 2011) signed to play for Oregon State University and d’Aundrey Vanslyke (South Kitsap, 2011) signed to play for Pierce Community College this fall; and supported by Blake Valley (Peninsula, 2012), Jake Ayers (Gig Harbor, 2012) and Kory Vanderstaay.  

Pitching
The starting lineup of pitchers will be led by future Oregon State player Mike McCall (Gig Harbor, 2011), followed by University of Washington commit Kellen Traxel (South Kitsap, 2013) and a mix of Steven Daly (Gig Harbor, 2011), Corey Main (South Kitsap, 2012), Andrew Mattingly (Peninsula, 2012), Nick Gagliardi, (Gig Harbor, 2012), and Alex Weymiller.  Coming out of the bullpen will be Kyle O’ Leary (Gig Harbor, 2012), Joe Hanley (Peninsula, 2012), Sean Leger, Returner Ryan Olson (Gig Harbor, 2011), Nate Reece, and d’Aundrey Vanslyke.
